REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR THE KEARNEY BUDDY WALK!
We are excited to be partnering with the NDSS to bring back the Buddy Walk® to Lincoln and Kearney NE.
What is a Buddy Walk?
The Buddy Walk® provides a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and engage participants in advocacy efforts. It is also our largest fundraiser for both the Kearney and Lincoln Locations. Please join us on March 18th at Gateway Mall, 6100 O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska or in June at Yanney Park in Kearney (more details will be posted soon). Links to each walk page are listed below.
How do I create a Team?
Designate a Team Captain. The Team Captain will then create the team online using the buttons below. This year we are using new software so everyone must register as a new team. Once your team is created, invite friends and family to join your team. Team members can fundraise, register and/or donate! Be sure to customize your team page with pictures and text about why you are participating! Once you have your page personalized, share on social media or email and invite family and friends to join you. Team members that register by the t-shirt deadline are guaranteed a Buddy Walk T-Shirt.
What are some ways to fundraise?
We encourage teams to fundraise leading up to the event. You can simply share your team page through email or social media. You can ask your company or a company you frequent to sponsor the event. Any corporate sponsor dollars that you raise will be credited to your team. You can host a 3rd Party fundraiser, which can include anything from a restaurant give-back night to a mini-festival to a dinner party...the possibilities are endless! We truly appreciate your fundraising efforts, and we are here to help! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.
What does the money raised help support?
As the largest DSAA fundraising events of the year, the Buddy Walks provides the resources needed for DSAA to fulfill its mission throughout the year. With your help, we can continue to provide support, resources, outreach, and programming to individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. The Buddy Walk funds our Medical Outreach program, Extended Hospital Stay Bags, Scholarships to learning opportunities, networking events, events with community partners like Husker Heroes and the ARC Holiday Party
Where can I get a Buddy Walk T-Shirt?
A Buddy Walk T-shirt is included in the registration, but you must be registered by the t-shirt deadline to guarantee a Buddy Walk t-shirt. The Thursday and Friday before the Lincoln walk we will hold team t-shirt pick up days.. In Kearney the pick up location and date is yet to be determined. Team Captains can pick up all of the shirts for their registered team members. It is the Team Captain’s responsibility to pick up the shirts and distribute them to each team member. Individuals can also pick up t-shirt at the Buddy Walk.
All shirts not picked up prior to the walk will be available the day of the walk at the registration tables
What can I expect at the Buddy Walk?
The Buddy Walk is a special day for everyone! In Kearney we will be walking around the lake. In Lincoln we will be walking at Gateway Mall, families have the choice to walk inside or outside. We also welcome virtual walkers who wish to support a loved one with Down syndrome, but are not physically able to attend the walk. It is your day, so walk your way! You can hop on the walk route wherever you’d like. Please note, the Buddy Walk takes place rain or shine.
