How Your Monetary Support is Used

10/3/2020

Happy Down Syndrome Awareness Month Day 3!  Today we would like to share with you the many ways we put the generous funds donated to our organization to work in the Nebraska Down syndrome community.

This snapshot of our Buddy Walk Sponsorship Brochure gives you a few of the ways we support the community, but there are many other ways funds are put to use.  While this year looks a bit different with our in person events suspended due to Covid, we are=working to make sure our families stay safe  while remaining connected.  We offer 4 pm afternoon socializing clubs on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for individuals with Down syndrome to connect.  We also offered a series of Covid Camps in a box this summer for families who had younger kids to stay active and connect.

In addition to all the items listed above, there are a few other ways DSAA uses donated funds to support their community -
Collaboration with and membership in Local and National organizations like- National Down Syndrome Society, National Down Syndrome Congress, Global Down Syndrome Foundation, One Coalition (that puts on the popular Husker Heroes), Local ARC's, Disability Rights Nebraska and more.
Awareness Activities like our October poster campaign, where every family in Nebraska can have their loved one featured on a awareness poster- free!  purchasing bracelets for families to hand out at school, provide peer presentations materials for school, to raise awareness for peers.  and more
Advocacy activities like sending representation to the annual senators dinner and keeping up to date on bills that impact our community,  Making sure we have representation and testimony at Unicameral hearings when appropriate.
Then there are the typical operating expenses, like insurance, postage, office supplies, website, zoom account, Vimeo account,  our office space in Lincoln to name a few.
While funds raised in our parent group can be used anywhere in the state, funds raised in our community groups stay local  to promote the value, acceptance and inclusion opportunities.
If anyone ever has questions regarding how our money is spent, or how you can get a new program to help families in your community, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
