In Loving Memory

9/19/2020

Picture
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our 2019 Buddy Walk Sponsorship Chair, Sharon Jacobson.
As a devout Catholic, she lived her faith in service to others, serving on the Saint Joseph's Altar Society and coordinating the Meals Ministry to provide support to parishioners experiencing difficult times. Sharon also participated in a Random Acts of Kindness group and greatly enjoyed being able to make a difference in the lives of others. For 10 years, she was in charge of obtaining donations for the silent auction to benefit the school at Saint Joseph's annual Holiday Fair, working tirelessly to secure monetary donations and donations of auction items. After the loss of a granddaughter with Down Syndrome, she directed her fundraising efforts to raising money for Down Syndrome Advocates in Action Nebraska.
We are are so honored to have gotten to know Sharon and learn from her strength and devotion to helping others.
DSAA Ne would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Sharon's family on the loss of their beloved Mother and Grandmother  We are beyond honored to have been chosen as one of the organizations to receive memorial donations in Sharon's memory. Her legacy will be to help advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome.  Memorials can be sent to DSAA NE, 6425 Taylor Park Drive, Lincoln NE 68510

Thank you to everyone who registered, donated and participated in the 2020 Nebraska Virtual Buddy Walk.  We raised over $11,000 from over 500 registered walkers and donors to help with operating expenses, networking and educational events,  to cover the costs of our programming, and to use to develop new programming.
If you are not aware of the programming we already offer, Please check out some of our current programs:
New Parent Outreach
321 Parent to Parent
Extened Hospital Stay Assistance
Peer Presentations
Educational Scholarships
IEP Assistance
Family Connections Webinars
You can find out  more about any of these programs at dsaane.org/programs

However we recognize that in light of the pandemic, some of these programs will look differently.  We are currently hosting virtual monthly parent meetings, weekly afternoon clubs, and this summer we hosted 4 sessions of educational Covid Camp which had both live and recorded participation options.
What we need to know from you our members, is what programming would help you now in light of current circumstances?  Please email us at info@dsaane.org with information about what programs and assistance you would like to see created moving forward.
We are a 100% volunteer run organization.  We could not be able to serve any families without the tireless efforts of our volunteers.  We welcome not only your ideas, but your help.  we have many committees, that could use your help.  If you would like to volunteer for any of our committees, or create a new committee please email info@dsaane.org

Thank you to our Walk Prize Donors

9/12/2020

Even though some of the prizes were voided by the global pandemic, we are none the less so grateful to those  companies and organizations who donated prizes to our walk.

Thank You to our Walk Sponsors!

9/10/2020

We could not put on a walk of this magnitude without the backing of many fine sponsors.  While this year did not look like most years have looked in the past, we are no less grateful for the support offered by all of these fine companies and organizations.

Raise Awareness this October with a Free Poster

9/8/2020

Picture
At DSAA Ne we believe that individuals should not have to earn their way on to awareness posters.  Every individual with Down syndrome deserves to be featured on a poster to raise awareness during October, if they want to be featured.  For that reason we are offering every family one free poster. size 11x14. Do you want to make a bigger statement?  The price of the free poster can be subtracted from the larger sizes posters which  are available for an additional fee.   You can even get a yard sign to display outside the entire month of October for just $35  Just submit a high quality or professional photo (must included a signed release)  by September 20th and choose your style of poster.  It is that easy.  There is no limit to the number of awareness posters you can get.
